A sneak peek into the upcoming episode of NBC's "The Voice" for Tuesday, May 17 features Sweetwater native Tje Austin competing in an elimination bout.
Following the blind auditions of Round 1, Tje will be taking on Austin-based competitor Nakia, a 36-year-old who might not look the part but certainly sounds it. According to The Voice's website, "Nakia draws strength from his extended family and inspiration from the memory of his father. Until he passed away in 2009, Nakia's dad encouraged him to follow his dreams."
The music competition is not only allowing Nakia to follow his dreams, but Tje's as well. In this second round of competition, the two singers will face off in a boxing ring like stage. Tje and Nakia will perform the same song in front of the show's four coaches who inevitably decide their fate: country crooner Blake Shelton, pop superstar Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine and their team coach, hip hop artist Cee Lo Green.
And if you were hoping to vote for Tje, this round omits viewer participation. After the performance, the judges will determine which of the two will advance to Round 3, where the remaining 16 voices will perform in the typical elimination round.
From that point, the show takes on the American Idol feel and fans will get the chance to vote for their favorite up and coming superstar. The winner will win a prize of $100,000 and a record deal with Universal Republic.
"The Voice" airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. on NBC.
