Sweetwater 2020 will host a town hall public forum on Monday night, March 24, from 6-8 p.m. at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium at 400 Locust Street downtown. Sweetwater Mayor Greg Wortham will moderate the event.
Sweetwater 2020 is an unofficial initiative to bring together groups and individuals in the community to discuss community concerns and perceptions and to highlight ideas and actions across the community to launch creative solutions and strategies, Wortham said.
The March 24 meeting will include an overview of objectives of Sweetwater 2020, a discussion of topics that citizens want to address in Sweetwater, and then a focus on youth activities, options and future opportunities.
âSweetwater 2020 is an initiative to bring together different groups in Sweetwater to hear their concerns, to share those concerns across the broader community, and to hear action ideas that groups and individuals have to address their concerns,â Wortham said. âThere are many exciting and creative things going on in our community to improve Sweetwater, and I want to hear about these ideas and actions.â
There are also effective models from other communities in West Texas that we can learn from, Wortham said.Â
Future Sweetwater 2020 forums will continue the discussion on youth activities, as well as focus on other issues of concern to Sweetwater residents, such as neighborhood crime prevention, economic opportunities and other quality of life topics. Each forum will feature open discussion with residents, official presentations from Sweetwater institutions, and ideas for citizen action to address the issues.
All Sweetwater 2020 forums are free and open to the public. After March 24, the next scheduled Sweetwater 2020 forum will be Tuesday evening, April 8, from 6-8: p.m. at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex in Newman Park.
