The 4th Annual df Ranch Triathlon will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Lake Sweetwater public boat ramp, located at 326 FM 2035. The event will start at 7:30 a.m. and will be the USA Triathlon Texas State Sprint Championships.
The triathlon will be a timed race that includes a 500-meter swim in the lake, 14 mile bike on a rolling hills course on FM 2035 and a 3.1-mile run on County Road 252.
There will also be a Land-Lover's division--for those who prefer not to get wet, which includes just the bike and run portion. A designated swimmer will complete the swim for the participant, and then their race will start as the swimmer leaves the water and begins their transition.
The race is limited to 500 participants, and no refunds and transfers will be issued. The triathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event. Mail-in registration ended on May 18, but online registration continues through June 1.
During registration, participants will be asked to select a wave. The three wave options are "hares"--hard charging swimmers, "tortoises"--slow and steady racers, or beginners. First-timers do not have to be in this group, but more attention will be given to this category.
An early packet pickup will be held on Friday, June 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. The race day packet pickup will start at 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. on the day of the race. Other important information will be sent via email a week before the event.
Prizes will be awarded to the overall male and female winners; all participating athletes will receive a race t-shirt, and all finishers will receive a finishers' gift. Awards, music, and post-race food and drinks will be available upon completion of the race.
Through the funds raised by the df Ranch Triathlon, organizers hope to raise money toward the awareness and research of Alzheimer's disease. Event coordinators David and Karly Bobo have personally been impacted by the disease after David lost his grandfather and grandmother, Dave and Frances Fitzgerald, within a two-year timeframe--thus prompting them to put the triathlon plan into motion.
The event is sponsored by the Fitzgerald and Reichenstein families, LakeSweetwater.com, Larry May CPA, Zimmer Solutions, Morgan Real Estate, Texas National Bank, Hammer Nutrition, Brookshire's and KXOX.
Anyone wishing to donate to the cause--or to register for the triathlon--can visit their website at https://fastfeetracing.com/2012_df_Ranch_Triathlon.html.
