Next week our country will be celebrating 236 years as an independent nation. The United States of America may still be considered a young nation compared to other nations of the world, but no other nation has the Christian heritage that we possess. While many nations of this world have been established for the purpose of seeking selfish or financial gain, there is not another nation, today, that can say that its beginnings were for the purpose of pursuing religious freedom to worship the God of the Holy Bible.Â
Are we blessed today, because of our Christian heritage? Will God continue to bless? Psalm 33:12 says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord...” Yes, God has blessed our country and will continue to do so as long as we as nation recognize Him as the Lord of it. Sadly, there has been a constant debate on if we are still a nation that is under God. May we as Christians not forget our heritage and may we fight to keep this country a Christian nation.Â
As encouragement to you my fellow believers, let me share with you some prayers of a few of our past presidents:
1. George Washington wrote this prayer in his own diary: “Let my heart, gracious God, be so affected with Your glory and majesty that I may discharge those weighty duties which thou requirest of me . . . Again, I have called on thee for pardon and forgiveness of sins . . . for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ offered on the cross for me. Thou gavest thy Son to die for me and hast given me assurance of my salvation.”
2. On D-Day, in 1944, President Franklin Roosevelt prayed on national radio the following: “Almighty God . . . with Thy blessing we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy. Help us to conquer the apostles of greed and racial arrogance. Lead us to the saving of our country. Thy will be done, Almighty God. Amen
3. In 1955, Dwight D. Eisenhower said the following in his speech: “Without God there could be no American form of government, nor an American way of life. Recognition of the Supreme Being is the first – the most basic – expression of Americanism. Thus the founding fathers of America saw it, and thus with God’s help, it will continue to be.”
If you don’t have a church home, we would love for you to come and visit us this Sunday. Our Life Groups, which is for all ages, starts at 10 a.m. Our morning service is at 10:50 a.m. and our evening service begins at 6 p.m. Come and let us be a blessing to you as we worship the Lord together.

The summer of 2012 continues to be full of family-fun activities that can start new friendships and solidify existing ones. 1) Opportunities such as P3 activities are scheduled for July 9-12 (Circle Drive) and August 6-9 (Fraley Park) where we reach out to families within our community. Also, 2) the church-wide picnic; and 3) Various camps; plus 4) the Ugandan Children's Choir will sing in both English and their native language (Luganda), beginning at 6 p.m., in the FBC Sanctuary, on July 22. Be sure your family has registered in the FBC foyer to attend and participate in some, if not all, of these activities. Contact Pastor Phillip Thomas directly if you can be one of three host homes needed for the Children's Choir and their sponsors for the night of July 22. The Children's Choir will also play instruments, including African drums and perform traditional dances in colorful costumes. The knowledge acquired by those attending will be invaluable in understanding the needs of orphans in "Third World" countries, as well as demonstrating God's powerful hand at work in their lives.

First United Methodist Church
Sweetwater First United Methodist Church wants to invite you to join us on Sunday mornings to worship and praise our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The United Methodist Church is open to all persons and is a place where all are welcome and encouraged to “come as you are” with the expectation that by the grace of God you will leave different. The change that a relationship with Christ brings about is a life-changing encounter and we believe that while God accepts us as we are He loves us enough not to leave us in our sins. We believe that Scripture informs all aspects of our lives and should be our rule and authority.
The first service begins at 8:45 a.m. and is built around a traditional model with great hymns of the church. This service uses a more liturgical framework and often employs a wonderful choir.
Immediately following the first service we have Sunday school classes for all ages and stages of life. We invite you to try one of our many opportunities to come together and seek God in small groups that emphasize God’s Word and proclaim His glory.
At 10:50 a.m. we have a second worship service that has a decidedly contemporary flavor and incorporates more of progressive style and pace. This second service also has a children’s time and “Children’s Church” for kids in preschool through second grade.
Sweetwater FUMC also has youth activities on Sunday nights beginning at 6:30 p.m. Every Tuesday and Wednesday FUMC hosts the Gaylord’s Pantry and a clothes closet is available on Tuesdays. Both of those ministries operate from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Please enter through the North (4th street) entrance if you would like to receive God’s blessing through either of these ministries.
News this week: This week our series — the Challenge Course — continues with The Challenge of Peer Pressure examining how false gospels can become trendy and attractive in our culture. Our text will be Galatians 1:1-12.
Sweetwater Outreach Week is fast approaching. Thursday through Saturday (July 12-14) we will have a great opportunity to serve through missions. Sweetwater outreach is a combined effort of the churches in Sweetwater to show God's love in a tangible way. Will have much more information at church on Sunday.

Individuals will be celebrating our nation’s birthday on July 4, with family and friends. “Bless This House” asks us to give thanks to God for his guidance and protection of our country, for the lives of patriots who fought for our liberty and freedom and for our ancestral families who had the courage and fortitude to face and overcome the struggles in settling our nation. May we always cherish the blessings we have received from ones who have gone before and never take these precious gifts for granted. Pray we, ourselves, step up, and be actively responsible in protecting and preserving them for future generations.
You are always invited to join us at 1801 Lamar Street, sharing in our vision of making Disciples of Jesus Christ, growing spiritually, fulfilling our God-given gifts, witnessing to others and ministering to ones in need.

Come enjoy the spaciousness of our new Family Life Center and imagine how wonderful it will be once it is finished!
This year’s Vacation Bible School is done for another year, but don’t let the end of VBS be the end of your fellowship with God. Children were taught this week to trust God in everything. It is our hope that your children will continue in this practice throughout the rest of their lives. If you don’t have a church home, come visit us at Trinity and get connected. The best gift you can give your child is to bring them to church!
Hopefully, you have noticed that we refer to our church as the Trinity Family. All our endeavors are family-oriented, as evidenced by the construction of our new Family Life Center. We are now working diligently toward completing the interior. The majority of the inside finishing work will be completed by our members and volunteers. Please join us in prayers for safety, knowledge, ability and stamina as we bring this project to a close. We have been blessed in so many ways during this project. We are excited about the possibilities God has in store for this building and pray that all activities be for His glory.
