A total of nine Nolan County football athletes have been given all-region honors from the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association.
Blackwellâ€™s Jayden Jones was named to the all-region Division II, Region II first team as both a running back and a linebacker. Blackwellâ€™s Mason Magness and Ted Chambliss made the second team at cornerback and safety, respectively while Cody Shamblin, Mark Monroe and Franck Cano received all-region honorable mention.
Highlandâ€™s Ron Covington made the all-region Division I, Region II second team as a special teams player while receiving honorable mention were Shelby Howard on the defensive line and Michael Hyde at running back.
Jones was a two-way star for Blackwell. He ran for 1,910 yards on just 154 carries and scored 31 touch-downs, while recording a team-high 134 tackles on defense. Magness had 110 tackles, Chambliss 98, Cano 97 and Monroe 96 while tight end Shamblin provided strong blocking and he, Monroe and Jones caught at least 10 passes. All but Shamblin also had at least one fumble recovery.
Covington, in just seven games, had 1,010 all-purpose yards and 16 touchdowns with three of them on kick returns, and he also recovered three onside kicks. Hyde had 1,055 yards on 170 runs with 14 TDs. Howard had eight fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles, nine sacks, 50 solo tackles and 20 assists.
Covington, Monroe and Shamblin are seniors while Chambliss, Hyde, Jones and Magness are juniors and Cano and Howard are just sophomores.
