This year, as part of the TSTC (Texas State Technical College) Women's Leadership Institute's (WLI) mission to support the TSTC Values, each TSTC location — Waco, Harlingen, Marshall and West Texas (Abilene, Brownwood, Breckenridge, Sweetwater — will do a community project on Saturday, June 23, 2012.
The Sweetwater group spoke with Russell Jones, City of Sweetwater Director of Public Works, about painting the picnic tables at Newman Park and he was thrilled with the idea. He has also asked that the pillars of the pavilion be painted as well.
"We are asking faculty, staff and students to come help us beautify Newman Park," said event coordinators. "It's a great project and will be something that can be appreciated for years to come. And, it's a neat idea that TSTC faculty, staff and students from all over the state of Texas will be volunteering at the same time to do something special for their communities."
The WLI Sweetwater Community Project will last from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, June 23 at Newman Park, and everyone is invited to attend. Volunteers can help by donating their time by painting, or through donating paint rollers, brushes, or money toward supplies.
"Wear your favorite TSTC t-shirt and have some fun being a part of this exciting day."
