TSTC Nursing provides on-site medical assistance at Komen 3-day in Dallas

November 22, 2013

Twenty-two TSTC Associate Degree Nursing students and faculty volunteered as medical crew at the Komen 3-day walk in Dallas.

Twenty-two Texas State Technical College West Texas nursing students, plus faculty attended the Komen 3-day in Dallas. They worked to provide medical assistance to the attendees as well as volunteers. The group slept in on-site tents for the duration of the event. The Associate Degree Nursing students, who are already Licensed Vocational Nurses, volunteered to function as nursing/medical staff while gaining leadership clinical experience. The group attended a medical training workshop last month in preparation for the event where more than 1,200 walkers participated this year.
This marked the first time nursing students have volunteered for the medical crew at the Komen 3-day in Dallas. The partnership worked so well, TSTC has already been asked back for next year’s event.
