TSTC West Texas students compete in Skills USA Competition

Texas State Technical College West Texas students Hadley Holland, Nicholas Shults, Jeffrey Hardy and Spencer Mahoney from the Diesel program in Sweetwater competed at the State Skills USA competition in San Antonio. 
The group competed in the Diesel Equipment Technology portion of the competition where the contestant’s cycle through 14 stations testing and troubleshooting engines, electrical and electronics systems, power train systems including chassis, transmissions and carriers.
Contestants also demonstrate skills in hydraulic systems, vehicle inspections, fundamental failure analysis, brake systems, air-conditioning systems and general shop skills. Contestants also perform job interview skills and complete a written test.
TSTC Diesel instructor Jerry Johnson accompanied the group to San Antonio. Johnson is the 2009 Texas Skills USA Champion for Diesel Technology and a TSTC graduate.
