Two area crashes claim lives

At 1:36 a.m. on Saturday, Sammy Ken Castillo, 39, of Snyder, was driving a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle east bound on County Road 4114 in Scurry County. At the intersection of County Road 4114 and County Road 4129, the driver lost control and the vehicle left the roadway and overturned. Castillo was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Jule Culp at 2:04 a.m. His body was taken to Wright Colonial Funeral Home in Snyder. The next of kin have been notified. Castillo was not wearing a helmet.
The road was dry and the weather was clear. This crash is being investigated by Corporal Jason Ray McMillan.
One person was also killed in a one vehicle crash in Jones County. Roy Lee Richards, 42, of Stamford was driving a 1992 Geo Tracker south bound on Farm Road 1226 in Jones County. Richards veered the Geo off of the roadway to the west. The driver then overcorrected, which overturned the vehicle. The driver was unharmed, but his passenger, Richard Luera, 49, of Stamford, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:13 p.m. by Judge Cheryl Guernsey. The body was taken to Abilene Professional Services. The next of kin have been notified. Luera was not wearing a seat belt.
The weather was clear and the road was dry. This crash is under investigation by Trooper Gilbert Valdez.
