Two arrested after high speed chase

December 11, 2013

A pursuit involving a stolen vehicle and multiple law enforcement entities came to a conclusion on Monday afternoon at the intersection of Fisher and Avenue A.
According to Lieutenant Randy Hanes with the Sweetwater Police Department, the vehicle used in the pursuit was stolen on Sunday evening. Eventually, the vehicle was spotted by Officer Moses Campa, which started the pursuit.
The suspects made an effort to flee, in which Hanes explained that the pursuit became dangerous at one point. The vehicle was driven on the wrong side of the interstate for at least a mile’s distance.
The pursuit also took law enforcement through a playground located on Robert Lee, but with the cold weather on Monday, no one was on site, said Hanes.
The suspects continued to flee law enforcement on foot, but were eventually arrested. Both are in custody at the Nolan County Jail and have been charged with the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest.
Along with the SPD, law enforcement entities that were involved included the Texas Department of Public Safety, Nolan County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas State Technical College Police.
