Two blood drives in Sweetwater on Sept. 29

September 27, 2011

Donors at the Sweetwater blood drives on Thursday, September 29 will receive a breast cancer awareness T-shirt.

Two blood drives will take place in Sweetwater on Thursday, September 29 from noon until 6:00 p.m. One bloodmobile will be parked at the Nolan County Courthouse and the other will be parked in front of the Lions Club Building. A total of ninety eight donors participated in the blood drives on August 4. Those who donated blood then will be eligible to donate again on September 29.
The demand for blood continues to grow, and Meek Blood Center must collect a minimum of sixty pints of blood each day to make blood transfusions possible at seventeen area hospitals, including Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital. "Blood usage is difficult to predict," said Frances Baker, donor recruit for Meek Blood Center. "Our job is to ensure blood availability to every patient in need of a blood transfusion. All of the blood we collect comes from volunteer donors. We are very grateful to the special individuals in the communities we serve who are willing to help save lives through the selfless act of blood donation."
Donors must be at least 17 years old (age 16 with signed parental consent), weigh a minimum of 120 pounds and in general good health. All donors must present a photo ID. Those who have eligibility questions may call Meek Blood Center at 325-670-2798 or visit the website at www.meekbloodcenter.org. Each donor will receive their choice of a breast cancer awareness T-shirt or a reusable shopping bag.
