Two killed in Highway 70 wreck

January 5, 2014

Two people were killed in a car crash four miles outside of Sweetwater Friday night.
Around 10:30 p.m., a truck hauling cattle was driving north on Highway 70. After coming down a large hill, Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden says the driver missed the curve at the bottom of the hill. The truck went off the roadway to the east, through a guardrail and overturned, DPS says.
The female driver of the rig, 55-year-old Brenda Tuck of Seguin, was killed on impact. The passenger, 54-year-old David Tuck of Seguin, was trapped under the semi. Fire crews worked feverishly for over two hours trying to free him. A heavy wrecker was used to lift the truck off of him so he could be freed from the wreckage. He was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in critical condition and later died around 1 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Both of their bodies were taken to Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home in Sweetwater. Scanio Harper Funeral Home in Temple will be in charge of funeral arrangements.
