Sweetwater High School’s Kelsey Painter and Bri Munoz will go to the state powerlifting meet in Corpus Christi later this month after qualifying at the regional meet that was held Saturday in Odessa.
Painter lifted a total of 675 pounds for a third-place finish in the 132-pound class. Munoz placed fourth in the 105-pound class, but also qualified for the state meet because her 550 total was the best of any Class 3A athlete in her weight class.
Sweetwater was third as a team at the regional meet. Both Painter and Munoz will make their first state appearance on March 18. Others competing at regionals for Sweetwater who placed were Loni Mendez (710), who was fifth in the 181-pound class; Lexie Perez (650), sixth in the 165-pound class; and Allie Zavaleta (590), 10th in the 123-pound class.
