Two SMS teams defeat Greenwood

All four Sweetwater Middle School football teams went to Midland Greenwood this past Thursday and two came back with victories.

8th grade White 20, Greenwood 14
Deshawn Williams had touchdown runs of 50, 60 and 35 yards in leading Sweetwater White (2-1) to a win over Greenwood.
Isaiah Gonzales added a two-point conversion pass to Adan Sanchez, and also had a 50-yard TD pass to Matthew Trevino that was called back due to penalty.

Greenwood 28, 8th grade Red 26
Adrian Vizzerra had scoring runs of 60 and 5 yards for Sweetwater Red (1-2) in a narrow defeat. Also, Max Nemir had a 5-yard TD run; Max Gomez hit a 15-yard TD pass to Michael Hunt; and Michael Lawrence had a pass interception.

Greenwood 14, 7th grade White 12
Sweetwater White (1-2) scored on Isaac Currie’s 15-yard run and Tyler Rea’s 45-yard interception return for a TD. But Greenwood scored on a kickoff return and two-point conversion to win the game. Rea completed a 40-yard pass to Lowell Williams that got Sweetwater White to the Greenwood 15 on a last-ditch drive which failed.
Ramon Saldivar, Caden Cornutt, Zach Vera and Christian Reyes were defensive standouts.

7th grade Red 34, Greenwood 0
Sweetwater Red (3-0) is still undefeated and has yet to allow a point after shutting out Greenwood.
Three scores came on Jacoby Hunt runs of 42, 45 and 58 yards. Also, Hunt had a 46-yard interception return for a TD. Jordan McGee had a 30-yard TD pass to Daniel Olguin, who also had two two-point conversions, one on a pass by McGee and the other on a run. McGee, Elijah Escobedo and Hunt had interceptions and Gaiden Crelia, Douglass Rainey, Christian Acuna, Jacob Greenwood, Coltor Reed, Olguin and Keenan Cox were the other defensive standouts.
