Two-vehicle accident on US-277 kills one driver

A two-vehicle accident outside of Abilene kills one driver early Sunday afternoon.
According to DPS, a pickup truck heading northbound on US-277 (eight miles south of Abilene) lost control on icy road conditions around 2:30 p.m. The driver struck a guardrail, crossed over the center stripe and crashed into an SUV heading southbound.
The driver of the SUV, 53-year-old Randall Castleberry of Abilene died after the vehicle went over the bridge. Castleberry was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Doan before 3 p.m. Two other passengers including a 7-year-old were treated for stable injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, Alberto Medrano of Abilene, was sent to Hendrick Medical Center for serious injuries. A 17 and a 60-year-old passenger were also sent to the hospital for stable injuries.
All of the passengers inside the truck were wearing a seatbelt. Castleberry was also wearing a seatbelt.
