TxDOT to host second public meeting on possible US 83/84 improvements

Staff Writer

Due to considerable growth in the southern portion of Abilene and Taylor County, TxDOT is hosting a public open house to gather additional input and review previous comments regarding possible improvements to the US 83/84 corridor, specifically the six-plus miles south from Iberis Road to the US 83/US 84 split.
All interested citizens are invited and encouraged to attend the open house, scheduled from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the River of Life Church located at 539 W. US 83/84 in Abilene. The purpose of this meeting is to gather feedback from the community regarding the need for safety improvements along this corridor, and to review comments from the first open house held in June. No formal presentation will be given, and those interested may come and go at their convenience.
Local traffic in this area will increase with expected growth, and traffic passing through the area to other destinations is likely to increase as the state’s population grows. Roadway enhancements will be a proactive effort to prepare the corridor for anticipated traffic increases while working to maintain the safety of the traveling public.
June’s open house saw tremendous attendance with more than 125 residents, business owners, elected officials and other citizens sharing their comments with TxDOT officials. Continued input and feedback from the public will allow the agency to prioritize projects and improvements along the roadway as additional ideas are considered.
