Updates made at Municipal Auditorium

January 27, 2014

Richard Smola, Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium board member, is shown pointing to the new doors recently installed at the auditorium.

The Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium now boasts a number of updates and new features, and the board is excited about the possibility of even more with the participation of the community.
Some of the recent improvements include the new tinted front doors and new lobby carpeting. Add that to the renovated downstairs bathrooms and the replacement cushioned seats upstairs and residents have a more comfortable and convenient venue.
"The front doors, besides looking terrible, leaked like a sieve, and were getting mechanically unsound" said Richard Smola, a board member of the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. The new doors seal better, look better, and are easier to lock and unlock. Along with the doors, new carpet was installed in the lobby. New lighted sign display boxes were installed outside the front doors in order to post upcoming events. A brief history of the Auditorium is also currently posted. While making the Auditorium a nicer place to visit, these improvements have unfortunately drained the Auditorium's coffers.
Business sponsors are currently being solicited, as more improvements are needed to keep the Auditorium functional for all types of events. Upstairs bathroom renovations, curtains, and additional door replacements on the stage and side of the auditorium are needed. Sponsors' names will be prominently displayed at all events, with tiered recognition levels of Bronze ($250), Silver ($500), Gold ($1000), and Platinum ($2500) sponsorships available.
Individuals can also help out: seat sponsorships are still available at $150, which gives a dedication or memorial brass plate on an auditorium seat. "Seat dedications helped pay for the new comfortable seating that is available downstairs," Smola said. About 150 seat sponsorships are still available.
Businesses wanting to become 2014 sponsors or individuals wanting to make seat dedications can contact Richard Smola at 325-235-4947 or by letter to Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium at PO Box 584.
