Sweetwater volleyball continues district play

Sweetwater High School’s three volleyball teams will continue a three-game road swing today when they go to Midland Greenwood, with the varsity match set to tip off at 5 p.m.
A win today will be critical to Sweetwater’s playoff hopes after the Lady Mus-tangs lost to Wylie — the No. 1 team in the state in Class 3A — on Tuesday to fall to 1-3 in District 4-3A with six games left. Greenwood is also 1-3, but is coming off its first district win Tuesday against Snyder, also the only team Sweetwater has beaten in district play.
All three district losses for Sweetwater have been to ranked teams as Big Spring (3-1) and Monahans (3-1) have also cracked the top 20 in the state polls. Sweetwater goes to Monahans on Tues-day to complete its road swing, and probably needs to win at least once before returning home in order to keep its postseason hopes alive. Three of the last four matches will be at home.
Sweetwater’s freshman and JV teams also lost to Wylie on Tuesday.
The JV fell 16-25, 11-25, while the freshmen were defeated 10-25, 11-25.
