Vera Hamilton passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2014, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab Center in Sweetwater. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Slaterâ€™s Chapel Cemetery at Nolan, Texas with Reverend Keith Clower officiating. Services are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hamilton was born in Tisdale, Sash, Canada and moved at an early age to Prince George, B.C. Canada. She married Buck Hamilton on Sept. 3, 1968 and she became a U.S. citizen in 1971.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Sparks of Moberly, Missouri; sons, Skip Fontaine and wife Sandra of Marshall, Missouri and Bobby Fontaine and wife Linda of Crestview, Florida; a step son, Gary Hamilton and wife Gayle of Monroe, Louisiana; her sister, Ann Holland of Fort Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Buck; her parents; two sisters; and one brother.
She and Buck owned and operated the Dairyland Drive In for 26 years and cattle ranched for 15 years. She had been employed by the First Christian Church for 13 years, Highland Baptist Church for 7 years and the Colorado City Livestock Auction for 10 years where they became long lasting friends with Nancy and Bill Ellis. She and Buck enjoyed bird hunting, horse racing and country western dancing on Saturday nights with all their many friends. Vera was avid animal lover.
