Verna L. Akers

Funeral services for Verna L. Akers, 91, of Roscoe, were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Roscoe Church of Christ with Dan Boren officiating. Interment followed at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
Visitation was held fro 5-6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Akers died Friday, March 18, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 16, 1919, in Shelbyville, Texas. Verna Miller was a graduate of Roscoe High School in 1936 and also a graduate of Cogdell Memorial Nursing School in the 1960s. Verna was an LVN and had lived in Roscoe since 1993, coming from Graham. She was a member of Roscoe Church of Christ and a past member of the Eastern Star. She loved playing dominoes, the game of chickenfoot, cooking and crocheting and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with church members from her ladies Bible class. She devoted over half of her life helping others. This gave her the most pleasure of all.
Survivors include her son, Eddie Joe Coston and wife Penny Muller of Austin; daughter, Penny Seats and husband Brian of Wiggins, Miss.; grandsons, Marcus Coston of Littleton, Colo., Brian Seats of Wiggins, Miss. and Brent Seats of Wiggins, Miss.; granddaughters, Catherine Coston of Colorado, Heather Duncan and husband Jonathon of Abilene, Sarah Seats of Wiggins, Miss., Amanda Seats of Wiggins, Miss. and Ashley Seats of Wiggins, Miss.; great-grandchildren, Vandon, Triston, Jayton, Brayden, Kaylee and Colten; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Guy Edward Coston on June 6, 1965, James Sheperd in 1972 and Bill Akers on Oct. 3, 1992; her parents, Lula and Arch Miller; sister, Lillie Wallace; and brothers, Maurice Miller, Merle Miller, Neil Miller and Odell Wallace.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sweetwater Healthcare Center and Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
