Vernon R. “Cotton” Allen

ROBY — Vernon R. “Cotton” Allen, 80, former resident of Fisher County now of Snyder, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at Mitchell County Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Roby. Burial will follow at Roby Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held Saturday from 5-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Cotton was born March 15, 1930 the only son of Aaron Richard Voris Allen and Carrie (Schick) Allen.  He was a graduate of Roby High School class of 1949. He was a retired TXDOT employee, a farmer, and was also a GM certified mechanic. He spent a lot of time working on cars and tractors.
Cotton married the love of his life Patsy Ann Johnson Aug. 9, 1958, in Hermleigh. In 1960, they returned to Fisher County and made their home and raised a family. After a car accident in September 2009, they moved to Snyder to be near family.
Surviving him are his wife, Pat; son, Robert Allen and wife Melissa of Snyder; daughter, LaTricia Wood and husband Trey of Slaton; sisters, Verbeth McLaughlin and husband Tommy and LaVeta Allen of Midland.  Also surviving are the precious ones in his life, grandchildren, Johnathan and Hanna Louis, Kaitlyn, Caleb and Ashlyn Wood; two nieces, Sharon Sullivan and Sharla Thompson and two great-nieces, Ali and Laney.
