Maria "Vickie" Castillo, 58, of Sweetwater, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, in Mt. Pleasant, TX.
Services were held at Curry-Wellborn Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, with Pastor Joshue Luna officiating. Interment was at Neville's Chapel Cemetery.
Ms. Castillo was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on Feb. 29, 1952, the daughter of Benito Castillo and Gregoria Najera Castillo.
She is survived by her son, Joe Jr. Avalos of Sweetwater; daughters, Alma Mujica of Mt. Pleasant and Cecilia Mujica; son-in-law, Adrian Espinoza of Roby; nine grandchildren, Ryan Mujica, Daniel Espinoza, Alexander Espinoza, Elizabeth Torres, Esmeralda Torres, Stephanie Torres, Hailie Avalos, Bethany Avalos and Makayla Espinoza; three brothers, Mario Castillo of Rocky Ford, Colo., Pedro Castillo of Austin and Manuel Castillo of Colorado; two sisters, Guadalupe Castillo and Gloria, both of Chihuahua, Mexico; and 19 nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father, Benito Castillo; mother, Gregoria Najera Castillo; twin sons, Jorge and Javier Castillo; and her husband, Ricardo Mujica who passed away Feb. 12, 1978.
Pallbearers were Joe Jr. Avalos, Mario Castillo, Adrian Espinoza, Pedro Castillo, Jaime Castillo and Thomas Castillo.
Honorary pallbearers were Daniel Espinoza and Ryan Mujica.
Ms. Castillo had been a resident of Sweetwater for over 30 years and was a long-time member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was a member of the Guadalupanas. She worked for Nu-Tone Cleaners for 16 years, then for Bahlman Cleaners, where she later retired in 2007.
Her daughters and son would like to thank her friends in Sweetwater for the prayers and thoughtful words that were given to them, but especially for their mother.
