Here are the upcoming events in Nolan County:
Monday, Jan. 5 Livestock Association The Nolan County Livestock Association will have a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at the Nolan County Coliseum old kitchen. Plans will be finalized for the 2009 Nolan County Livestock Show.
Big Country Dance The Big Country Dance will be held from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at the Nolan County Coliseum annex. Admission of $5 per person and entertainment will be provided by Exit 249.
Tuesday, Jan. 6 SMS Motivational Speaker All Sweetwater Middle School parents are invited to hear motivational speaker Brenda Bird at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the SMS Library. Bird will speak on several topics including "Making New Year's Resolutions?" "Want some new skills to help your teen be more successful in 2009?" "7 C's — We all need to be successful."
Let's Talk Books Let's Talk Books, the book club of the County-City Library, will meet at noon Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the meeting room. The book selection is Marley and Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog, by John Grogan. Sack lunches will be provided for the first 12 people for a $40 donation. Diabetes Outreach Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital diabetes outreach program will have a support group meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the ER classroom on Jenny George Lane. Participants are asked to enter at the outpatient entrance.
Wednesday, Jan. 7 Adult Literacy/ESL Class The adult literacy/ESL class will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the County-City Library. Call 235-4978 for more information.
Thursday, Jan. 8 Story Hour Story Hour at the County-City Library for parents and their children, ages babies to three-years-old will be held at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8. Retired School Personnel The Rolling Plains Unit of the Retired School Personnel Association will meet Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Sweetwater Country Club at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served followed by the program which will be presented by Angie Daves about her missionary work in Peru. There will be a short business meeting after the program. All retired teachers and school personnel are invited to attend. Saturday, Jan. 10 Choir Audition Emily Carey of Sweetwater High School will be auditioning for the HS Area Choir Auditions in Abilene.
Monday, Jan. 12 Free Computer Class The County-City Library is offering a free computer class from 9-11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12. Mark Rawlings, library volunteer, will be giving basic instruction in a one-lesson class limited to six participants. Sign up begins Monday, Jan. 5. This class will be on a first come, first serve basis for the first six that sign up. For more information, call the library at 235-4978.
SIS PTO Meeting Sweetwater Intermediate School will have a PTO meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at the school cafeteria. The PTO meetings will continue every second Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. throughout the school year.
Monday, Jan. 19 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Banquet The third annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. banquet is slated for Monday, Jan. 19, 2009. The banquet will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex, located at 1699 Cypress Street. The agenda will provide a variety of entertainment and keynote speaker Dr. Aubrey Todd, a West Texas native. Tickets are now on sale for individuals, groups and organizations by calling 933-0076. Anyone wishing to volunteer their time, talents or services may also call 933-0076. Tickets will be $10 for adults ages 19 and older; $5 for youth, ages 18 and under; and $4 for senior citizens. |
