SMS football teams sweep Breckenridge |

Sweetwater Middle School football teams won all four of their games against Brecken-ridge on Thursday, including three by shutouts. All of the SMS teams will be playing Gra-ham this week.
7th grade White 30, Breckenridge 0 Sweetwater White scored one touchdown in all four quarters of its game at Mustang Bowl, while the defense blanked Breckenridge. Zachary Rosas scored the first touchdown on a 5-yard run. In the second quarter, Patrick Gonzales galloped 42 yards for a TD after blocking a punt, and in the third stanza Ty Davis got the third score on a 1-yard TD run set up by a 60-yard interception return by Dylan Bennett. The final score came on a 30-yard run by Daniel Linebaugh. Getting conversion runs for the Colts in the game were Rosas, Stephen May and Linebaugh. The Colts forced three Brec-kenridge turnovers, including two interceptions by Bennett and a fumble recovery by Ben-jamin Martinez. Other defensive standouts in the game were Davis and Rosas with seven tackles; Kyle Burger with six tackles; Robert Hoh-man and Moses Campa with five tackles; Samuel Alvarez, Matthew Wright and Line-baugh with three tackles; Ben-nett, Morgan Mitchell, Donato Gaxiola and May with two tackles; and Martinez, Charles Har-vey and Troy Stone with one tackle. 7th grade Red 24, Breckenridge 14 Sweetwater Red built a 24-6 lead after three quarters of its game, which was also played at Mustang Bowl, until Brecken-ridge scored a late touchdown for the final margin. Sweetwater scored in some interesting ways, including a first-quarter safety when Colt players were able to sack Breckenrige's punter in the end zone, A 2-yard touchdown run by Robert Kamer increased the lead to 8-0, followed by a 31-yard TD run by Marquees Jen-kins and a Zephirin Tshilam-bikila conversion run to make it 16-0. Then, after Breckenridge closed within 16-6 on a 6-yard run, Colton Mitchell intercepted the Buckaroos' conversion pass and returned it 98 yards for an 18-6 lead at halftime. Kamer scored the final Sweet-water touchdown on a 17-yard run. Defensively, Jenkins had 12 tackles and also recovered a fumble; Michael Zapata had 10 tackles; Tyler Wigington had seven tackles; Deandre Gatson had five tackles; Xavier Jones had four tackles; Jonathan Neri and Tshilambikila had three tackles; Kendall Rea, Brandon Galindo, Quentin Wetsel and Mitchell had two tackles; and Kamer, Andrew Davis and Austin Palacios had one tackle. 8th grade White 28, Breckenridge 0 At Breckenridge, Bobby Soto scored two touchdowns and Shawn Campbell and Jacob Aguilar one apiece for the Colts while the Sweetwater White defense turned in a sterling effort by shutting out the hosts. Soto scored on runs of 60 and 18 yards, Campbell on an 8-yarder and Aguilar on a 25-yarder. Nathan Zapata had a two-point conversion after Campbell's TD and Aguilar scored on a conversion following Soto's second touchdown run. The defense was led by Alex Garcia with seven tackles; Christopher Gonzalez with five tackles; Chase Ramsey with four tackles; Cole Maxwell, Patrick Medillin, Zapata and Soto with two tackles; and Campbell, Alex Castillo, Agui-lar, Joshua Delacruz, Obed Barraza, Mario Salazar and Randy Duran with one tackle. Also, Delacruz had a sack and Zapata had an interception. 8th grade Red 22, Breckenridge 0 While the defense shut out Breckenridge, the Sweetwater Red offense overcame a slow start to score three touchdowns in its victory. The Colts got long-distance TD runs from Fabian Vizzerra (53 yards) and Ryan Linebaugh (50 yards) plus a 5-yard scoring run by Kyle Lambert. In addition to his touchdown, Linebaugh had a pair of two-point conversion runs. Defensively, Linebaugh had five tackles; Willie Norman had three tackles; Nick Nemir had two tackles and one big hit; Daniel Montez had two tackles and a fumble recovery; Lambert had two tackles; Gabriel Melendez had one tackle and one interception; Jonathon Davis had one tackle and one sack; and Ethan Burt, Chris Boyd, Jaylon (Pappy) Shivers, Jeremiah Haden and Vizzerra had one tackle. "Our boys came alive and played a good second half," said coach Al Miller. "Our blocking on offense was better. We came off the ball and we ran harder in the second half." |
