SHS to host financial aid presentation
Written by Thomas Watson
Thursday, 30 October 2008
Sweetwater High School will host a college financial aid presentation at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in the school library. Special guest Don Hilton, of the Panhandle-Plains Student Loan Center (PPSLC) located in Canyon will be on hand to guide students through each step to properly complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, as well as to offer free advice on wise loan borrowing and discuss the importance of grants and scholarships in general.
The  FAFSA is typically the first step in the financial aid process. College bound students use it to apply for federal student financial aid, such as the Pell Grant, student loans and college work-study. In addition, most states and schools use FAFSA information to award their financial aid.
Hilton, vice-president of school/lender services with PPSLC, graduated from Abilene Christian University with a Bachelor of Science degree and has more than 20 years of experience in the financial aid industry.
The presentation will last approximately 45 minutes to an hour. All senior and junior students, as well as parents, are invited to attend. PPSLC will also donate $200 to be given away during the evening presentation to attending SHS seniors.
PPSLC is based in Canyon, but has offices in Lubbock and Abilene, with representatives in Dallas, Houston, San Angelo, San Marcos and Stephenville.
The mission of PPSLC is to work for the success of future college students by promoting financial aid awareness, to provide a simple student loan process, and to deliver all aspects of student loan service with a personal approach. For more information on the organization, visit their website at www.ppslc.com or call their toll free number at 800-736-5727.
