Currently a member of the Texas Press Association and West Texas Press Association, the Sweetwater Reporter was recognized by both Associations in 2006, receiving top ratings in advertising, editorial, photography and general excellence.

The only daily newspaper in Nolan County, the Sweetwater Reporter employs more than 20 people, with about one quarter of the staff making up the news department. Other departments include advertising, composing, distribution, printing and business office.

The Sweetwater Reporter is a printing hub for more than 11 area publications.

The newspaper was founded in 1881, the same year that Sweetwater was incorporated as a city. The paper's original name was the Sweetwater Advance. Since that time the newspaper has been published under several names. In 1991, if began daily publication as the Sweetwater Daily Reporter . It has been at the same location, 112 West Third Street since 1923 in the histroic Texas Bank building.
