Several fire departments helped to contain a fire that began on the land of Bud and Karen Alldredge Saturday afternoon. Those assisting were Trent Volunteer Fire Department with four people and one truck; Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department with their tanker; Lake Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Department with two trucks and four people; Sweetwater Fire Department with three trucks; the Texas Forest Service with three dozers, one brush truck and a crew boss; and the Nolan County commissioners with a water truck and maintainer. The maintainer was driven by Gary "Hunk" Chance, "who built a great fire break and access for the fire trucks to get to the fire," said Sweetwater Emergency Services Manager Grant Madden. Chance is the Precinct 2 foreman for Nolan County. Commissioner Terry Locklar (Precinct 2) commended Chance for his efforts, along with Richard Treviño, who drove the water truck during the blaze. "They both did a great job containing the fire," said Locklar. The Nolan County Sheriff's Office also helped by providing food and drinks for those battling the fire. A total of 215 acres were burned during the fire, said to have been an electrical fire. The fire also spread to the Blue Goose Ranch.
