NCF to host reception for scholarship recipients Wednesday

Members of the Nolan County Foundation are announcing the recipients of their annual golf classic scholarship. This year's event was dedicated to the memory of Hazel Nunn who taught many years at Sweetwater High School. Both Mrs. Nunn and her late husband Charles Nunn were active in many community efforts, with emphasis on education. Jerry Riggs, NCF president, stated, "This year's golf classic raised funds which allows the NCF to award 16 $1,000 scholarships to Nolan County graduates who will be attending their freshman year at any Texas College." Riggs continued that these new awardees will be recognized Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at a reception at the Sweetwater Country Club. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with refreshments for the honorees, their family and guests. Actual individual presentations will start at 6 p.m. with Jerry Riggs presiding.
This year's awardees include Clayton Stanford and Darren Griffin from Blackwell High School; Michael Chmores, Caleb Dean, Spencer Dean, Richard Parsons and Sarah Sandusky from Highland High School; Madison Black, Marcos Nunez, Layken Cathey and Carli Fried from Roscoe High School; and Levi Cockrill, Donald Campbell, Sarah Cumbie, Sarah Rees and Dane Bennett from Sweetwater High School.
Riggs will be joined with the NCF board members Jere Lawrence, J.V. Martin, Glenn Bennett, Bill Johnson, Ronald Williams, Ronnie Cox, Rod Wetsel, Jacque McCoy and Homer Taylor in making these presentations. Riggs concluded that the NCF has awarded a total of 62 $1,000 scholarships since the inception of the Golf Classic.
