Music students perform at annual Spring Recital

Students of Noreen Carson presented their Spring Recitals Sunday, May 31, at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Christian Church. Piano and guitar selections were enjoyed by family, friends, and guests. Students were acknowledged during the Awards Presentation for their accomplishments throughout the year and were honored with a reception following their performances.
Participating students were awarded for their scores received on the Texas Music Teachers Association’s theory tests taken in the fall and spring. Mallory Carney received certification, Mattie Johnston received the bronze medal, silver medalists were Julia Rees, Megan Wilcox, Savannah Alden, Jon Basye, Kaitlyn Foster and Audrey Mink; gold medalists were Isabella Alden, Kaitlyn Chance, Cyera Pieper, Hannah Vermillion, and Natalie Barela. Natalie also received honors for receiving the gold medal all three years in the Primary Division.
Guild certificates and pins were given to the following students for performing before the Guild adjudicator, Frances Key of Olney, TX, at the National Piano Auditions in May sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Over 100,000 students in 880 centers throughout the nation participate in this annual event. Cyera Pieper and Kevin Pantoja received silver pins and State honors by performing a 7-piece memorized program. Those receiving gold medals and National honors for their 10-piece programs were Katie Pantoja, Haley Hancock, Cheyanna Petty, Alaina Andrews, Kaylee Martin, Whitney Williams, Isabella Alden, Hannah Vermillion, Devin Gutierrez, Ray Bohall, Kaitlyn Foster, Natalie Barela, Audrey Mink, Jon Basye and Savannah Alden. Savannah Alden also received a five-year gold pin for having performed 10-piece programs for the last  five years.
The following students were awarded the Musicianship Phase Award by Mrs. Carson for completing 100% of their musicianship goals for the year: Haley Hancock, Katie Pantoja, Kaitlyn Chance, Isabella Alden, Isak Alvarez, Brooke Hefner, Devin Gutierrez, Kaylee Martin, Hannah Vermillion, Cheyanna Petty, Ray Bohall, Kaitlyn Foster, Kevin Pantoja, Natalie Barela, Audrey Mink, Jon Basye, and Callie Sandusky.
Winners of the Gold Star Award, an award presented for consistency in practicing by accruing practice points throughout the year, were Kaitlyn Chance - sixth place, Audrey Mink – fifth place, Hannah Vermillion – fourth place, Katie Pantoja – third place, Kevin Pantoja – second place, Natalie Barela and Kaitlyn Foster – tied for first place.
Jesse Griffith was acknowledged for 11 years of piano study. Jesse will be performing his Senior Recital, Saturday, June 20, in Abilene at the ACU Williams Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.
Six guitar students and thirty-two piano students were acknowledged and awarded participation certificates for their dedication to increasing their music knowledge and skills.
