It rained, poured and then rained some more on Tuesday. But that didn't stop volunteers from five area churches from completing the task at hand. As part of Sweetwater Outreach Week, the 4th and Elm Church of Christ, Trinity Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Rhema Valley Baptist Church and First Christian Church, all had teenagers and adults volunteer to help paint houses in Sweetwater that needed a fresh coat.
In the incessant rain, three different crews of workers painted three different houses. According to Doug Crumb, a coordinator for the event and member of the 4th and Elm Church of Christ, the congregations are in their fourth year of volunteering services such as the ones provided Wednesday. "We do it once a year," he said. "We want to be the hands and feet of Christ, and show the community that a group of believers can get together and help people in need." Crumb said that public assistance groups such as SNAP and other local agencies provided names of people who may need services, and the churches then go visit them to determine what may be done. "They needed our services, and we are happy to provide it," Crumb said. |
