Carolee Hardin was named Teacher of the Year at East Ridge Elementary School. She is a third grade teacher and has been teaching for 15 years. Eight of those years have been spent teaching in Sweetwater. She is a graduate of West Texas A&M University in Canyon.
Hardin has also received other awards throughout her teaching career including J.P. Cowen Teacher of the Year 2003-04. Hardin gave a short philosophy of teaching. "I was recently given a book entitled "The Most Special Person." In this story, the king decides to find and recognize the most special person in the land. People representing many occupations explained their importance to the king. At the end, the king declared that health, food and shelter are all important. But these things without knowledge mean little. Everyone agreed that the most special person in the land was the teacher. I think that must be why I teach. I have never considered myself to be the most special person, but I have always known that I was making a contribution to the community through my work. There are numerous attributes that make an outstanding teacher." Hardin included only a few comments that co-workers "so kindly e-mailed upon hearing the news" that she was East Ridge's Teacher of the Year. "You have a great demeanor with the kids." "You are patient and you put in the extra work to be successful! You also helped save an inexperienced teacher with reading (teamwork)." Hardin added, "I can only hope to live up to these compliments. But I do believe they make a great teacher." |
