They don't make safes like they used to. Stanley Ford, the Sweetwater automobile dealership, experienced a CS (tear) gas leak on Tuesday which sent 19 of its employees to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital for minor treatment.
According to Dustin Rogers, sales manager for Stanley Ford, nobody was injured and the exposure to the noxious gas was minimal. "We had some itchy eyes and sore throats," he said. "But we were taken to the hospital and washed up." The tear gas, Rogers said, was part of a theft deterrent device on an old safe used for storing papers. When the safe was opened, one of the two vials containing the gas broke, filling the air with the irritating substance. The Sweetwater Fire Department responded to the scene, and a haz-mat crew was summoned from Abilene to dispose of the vials of gas. None of the employees sustained any serious injuries from the leak, and according to Rogers, the affected employees are back to work. |
