The Digital Era brings out a new program offering at Texas State Technical College. Starting the fall semester of 2009, TSTC West Texas will offer a Digital Signage Technology Associates Degree and a Digital Signage Assistant Certificate for the completion. There are no other colleges in Texas with this degree at this time. Digital signage is seeing an explosive growth in the United States. These signs are in a multitude of public places: airports, shopping centers, fitness centers and theme parks. They display everything from advertisements and safety regulations to weather updates and other programmable content. This program will train students to be proficient in producing these signs for the fast-growing industry.
They will take courses in Adobe Photoshop, Flash and Premiere which will allow them to create graphic content for delivery through Digital Signage Systems. Students will become proficient in the design, installation and management of the software necessary to operate Digital Signage Systems. Digital Content Producers and Digital Content Managers will be needed as support personnel for these systems. This training will be useful for existing A/V Technicians, Graphic Designers or Multimedia Artists with an emphasis on marketing and advertising using new technology in a global market. The job opportunities in Digital Signage are great. The average predicted growth for these fields is 27 percent. There are a total of 29,650 projected positions in Texas by 2016, reflecting an absolute change of 5,350 new positions in Texas in the next five years with an average hourly wage of $20.27.
