Sweetwater Roundup for Rehab sale nears
Written by Staff Reports
Saturday, 24 October 2009
It may be a strange sounding business philosophy but officials at the West Texas Rehabilitation hope you never need its services. They go further on to say that if you do, and some 25,000 people did last year, they will be there for you, regardless of your financial circumstance.
For the last 56 years the REHAB has been taking care of people throughout West Texas. Most people have either been helped by the REHAB or know someone who has received care.
To help offset the costs of helping those who can’t afford services, the REHAB holds fundraisers, and next Wednesday at Sweetwater Auction will mark the sixth year for the Sweetwater Round-Up for Rehab. This event is chaired by Homer Taylor, Tom Rees and Dalton Maddox. The overall Roundup for Rehab, now in its 50th year, is where local ranchers, businesses and individuals come together to help raise funds for the Center.
The Director of Donor Relations at the REHAB, Dan Huggins, says there are many ways to help out. He says you may donate an item for the auction by calling one of the chairmen or by bringing it Wednesday morning from 9-11 a.m. to the Sweetwater Auction. Those wanting to help can come out to the sale and bid on donated items ranging from cakes and pies to livestock. He says you can also make a tax-deductible cash donation on sale day.
The REHAB also invites participants out to a free hamburger lunch served from the REHAB chuck wagon beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The sale of items will begin about 12:15 p.m.
Nine sales are being done this year in local west Texas communities to benefit patients at the West Texas Rehab Center. In addition to Sweetwater, San Angelo, Abilene, Stephenville, Olden, Dublin, Brownwood, Junction and Coleman are also hosting sales this year.
Red Steagall is once again teaming with Rehab as Honorary Chairman, because as the legendary cowboy says of Rehab, it’s a place where “neighbor-helping-neighbor” is more than just a slogan…it’s a way of living and doing business.
Corporate friends of Rehab that have once again stepped forward as Round-Up sponsors are Heartland Alliance of America, Group IV-Member Owned Electric Co-ops including Big Country Electric Co-op, Taylor Electric Co-op, Comanche Electric Co-op, Concho Valley Electric Co-op, Coleman County Electric Co-op and Southwest Texas Electric Co-op, also sponsoring this year are Lone Star Beef, Strongpoint/Pied Piper Pet & Wildlife, Wrangler and Family Powersports.
For more information about the Rehab Center, Round-Up sale dates or arrangements for hauling donated animals, call WTRC-Abilene at (325)793-3508.
