RPMH welcomes new surgeon
Written by Amanda Moreno

West Texas people have a way of finding their way back, no matter how long it takes.
Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital welcomes Ellen "Summer" Walthall, M.D. to the staff.
Dr. Walthall is a general surgeon and is currently seeing and accepting patients. She started medical school in 1986, and has been a physician for 19 years.
"I grew up in West Texas and when this opportunity came up, it felt like what I was supposed to do," Dr. Ellen Walthall said.
Walthall grew up in the Midland/Odessa area and attended Texas Tech University for her undergraduate studies and eventually a masters. She spent seven years, during her residency in Chicago, and recently moved from Lebanon.
"I can do all the basic surgeon procedures, from hernias, gallbladders, breast and colon cancers, and even scopes," Walthall said.
She said that anyone over 50 should have a colonoscopy done. Along with her general surgeon capabilities, Walthall specializes in skin care.
"While I was in Lebanon, there was a need for skin care. Nobody really provided the service, unless you went a town over," Walthall said.
She provides skin analysis, dermafillers, chemical peels and pellevé.
"Pelleve is a way to smooth and tighten the skin without cuts or injections," Walthall said. "It's for those that want the effects of Botox, without the injections."
Coming to Sweetwater was a move directed by God, according to Walthall.
"I wasn't looking for a new job, but the opportunity presented itself and everything has fallen into place," Walthall said. "It seemed like this is what I'm supposed to be doing."
Growing up in West Texas, Walthall had passed through Sweetwater many times and was familiar with the area. When considering the position, she saw the community and liked what she saw.
"Looking at the hospital, I noticed it's one that takes care of it's employees and it's community," Walthall said. "Many of the people have been there long term and that says something, not only for the hospital, but for the community as well."
Walthall is looking forward to being a positive impact on the community. She is here for her patients. She cares for them and wants them to know that she is living in the same place they are and considers the community a type of family.
"I'm looking forward to helping Sweetwater be a more balanced community," Walthall said.
To schedule an appointment with Dr. Walthall speak with your current physician and have a referral or contact her office directly at 236-8886.
