County offices to receive upgrades
Written by Amanda Moreno

Out with the old, in with the new.
The County Clerk's office will be receiving some upgrades that will assist them in the service that they provide. Protection of records and easy access is key to maintaining accessible information to the people of Sweetwater. The County Clerk will be purchasing four new fire proof file cabinets. They will also be recreating 42 of their books. The County Court at Law Judge will also be purchasing a new printer.
A county local data advisory board has been established. This will raise the standards of the reporting that is done. Currently, the county is sitting at a 65 percent reporting rate and the new standard will expect them to be at a 90 percent reporting rate.
Another technology os being introduced to Nolan County, in hopes of helping law enforcement officials, in case of an emergency or other times, that different areas of law enforcement need to come together. The first process of installation has begun. The expected date to be installed and usable is around mid-January.
"This is going to let us work with a much higher level of interoperability," Sheriff David Warren said. "The citizens are going to benefit from knowing that we have this capability.
Warren said that this system will act as the gateway between different government entities and law enforcement agencies. It allows different radios to be used, without having to go out and purchase a different radio.
"This comes from the Sept. 11 attacks. The New York police were having trouble communicating with the different law enforcements and fire departments because of the different radio frequencies," Warren said. "This will let everyone communicate with everyone."
The new system will cost Nolan County $78,387.12, but will be fully reimbursed through the State Homeland Security Grant.
"This will put us at a level four interoperability," Warren said. "It will provide us with quicker service and a higher level of safety. The goal is to provide the best safety for the citizens of Nolan County."
A Law Enforcement Center Advisory Board is also being compiled, in hopes of gather information for a possible future Law Enforcement Center. County Commissioner Tony Lara and County Judge Tim Fambrough were approved to serve on this board.
Consideration was also granted for an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant. If approved for this grant much needed repairs and upgrades would be considered for the courthouse and the library.
With the onset of fall and the upcoming winter, weather conditions are more favorable for keeping the burn ban off. The burn ban has been off for a little over the past month and continues to stay that way.
A proclamation for Home Care and Hospice Month was also considered and approved. November is designated as Home Care and Hospice Month. This is a time when awareness is drawn to the services and importance provided by this organization.
