Stanley Ford in Sweetwater held a food and clothing drive on Saturday just in time for the holiday season. The food and clothes will go to the Assist Our Community project and be dispersed to those in need in Nolan County.
New Sales Manager at Stanley Ford, Barry Carter, had the idea for the food and clothing drive. "I came from Abilene about a month ago, and Abilene always has Mission Thanksgiving, which gives food to those in need during the holiday season. I thought that it would be a good idea to get something together for the people of Nolan County who are in need this holiday season," he said. "This is not just a food drive — we are taking anything that people would need during the cold season, food, warm clothes, heaters — anything that would make someone's winter season better than it would be without the donations." The Sweetwater Knights of Columbus offered to help with the food drive, loading and unloading food donations. Lionel Mendez, David Mendez and Francisco Herrera were on hand at the drive. Stanley Ford will have another drive from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, and will include food, clothing, heaters, as well as toys. Carter said that Wal-Mart and Brookshire's had donated many food items to the drive. "Both stores gave cases of food to the food drive. It is generosity like theirs that make it possible for some people to have a meal during the holidays that otherwise would not." |
