Thursday, 03 December 2009
The annual Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade, themed, "A Child's Christmas, Disney Style," at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009. This will be an afternoon parade beginning at Higginbotham's and the Nolan County Plaza parking lots. Line up and judging will be held at 4 p.m. At 4:30 p.m. the parade will proceed in the street and travel West on Broadway until it reaches Pecan Street where it will turn north and park on Pecan Street for disbursement of float participants.
The Grand Marshall of the parade will be the Business of the year, Texas National Bank, plus all three Outstanding Citizen 2009 winners, Mayor Greg Wortham, Karan Bergstrom and Martin Baker.
Candy can be thrown carefully to the crowd. Entries are not required to be lighted, just decorated.
Pull floats in line and judging will be held at 4 p.m. from the old IGA to the cable company (look for line-up barricades). The driver of each entry, including vintage, custom and classic vehicles, will receive a small appreciation gift. Three cash prizes will be awarded for the time and effort spent preparing horses for this event.
Walking entries are welcome, as are strollers, dogs on a leash, skaters, those riding on scooters, bicycles or go-carts. Small children must have an adult walking with them at all times.
Remember Santa cannot be on any float entry, not even an inflatable. Santa will be the entry of the Special Projects and Events Committee of the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce, headed up by Liz Sands.
Four cash prizes will be given for Most Creative Children’s Entry, Overall Theme, Most Unusual Entry and Best Children’ Entry floats.
For more information or to obtain an entry form, contact the Chamber office at 235-5488 or Chairman Liz Sands at 235-4440. Deadline to enter the parade is 10 a.m. the day of the parade.
