Sam Nemir was selected as a "Sophomore of the Year" scholarship recipient from the Texas-Oklahoma District of Kiwanis International. To be eligible for this award, Nemir was first selected at the Sweetwater Kiwanis Club Sophomore of the Year, and then was named the Division 35 Sophomore of the Year. Division 35 includes all Kiwanis Clubs in Abilene, Albany, Breckenridge, Clyde, Stamford, and Sweetwater. As the Division 35 winner, Sam then competed against winners from 40 Kiwanis International divisions throughout Texas and Oklahoma to receive the scholarship. Nemir received the award from Texas-Oklahoma Governor Bill Bishop at the Division 35 Governor's Banquet held on Feb. 15, in Abilene. Shown left to right are Kiwanis Texas-Oklahoma Governor Bill Bishop; Sweetwater High School Sophomore Sam Nemir; his mother, Marina Nemir; and Kiwanis Division 35 Lieutenent-Governor Gordon Dowell.
