Freda Elaine Kerley, 76, of Rockwall, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010. Elaine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and she will be greatly missed. She was born Oct. 29, 1933, in Comanche, Texas, to Fred and Bonnie Edmondson. Elaine graduated from Comanche High School in 1951. She later graduated from Howard Payne University cum laude in Brownwood, Texas, in 1965 with a degree in teaching. She enjoyed teaching in elementary schools and was a beloved music teacher for many years. Her teaching career lasted almost 30 years before she retired.
Elaine married Felton Kerley, also of Comanche, on June 29, 1951. This June would have marked their 59th wedding anniversary. They had a son, who died in infancy, and two years later in 1962, were blessed with their daughter. In 1965, they moved to Sweetwater, Texas, where Elaine began her teaching career. Elaine was a very accomplished pianist and organist and played for First Baptist Church in Sweetwater for many years. In 1983 they moved to Rockwall, Texas, where she resided until her death.
Elaine’s greatest passion in life was her love for God. She loved and honored Him all the days of her life and always tried to put Him first in all that she did. Elaine and her husband were active members of Lakeshore Church in Rockwall. There were many things that she loved doing, but spending time with her five grandchildren was one of her favorites. Her husband loved to travel and she enjoyed accompanying him to many beautiful destinations. She has also enjoyed volunteering her time and playing and singing at the Rowlett Nursing Home and spending time with the residents there for the last 12 years.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Felton Kerley; daughter, Kathy Young and her husband Phil of Rockwall; grandchildren, Audrey Butera and husband Jimmy, Abbey Keith and husband Chuck and Nathan Aimee and Annie Young, all of Rockwall; sister, Mary Jones of San Antonio; nephew, Keith Jones and wife Cheryl also of San Antonio.
She was preceded in death by her son, William Bland Kerley; her parents, Fred and Bonnie Edmondson; and brother, George Edmondson.
