Services for Zelma Leona (Lee) Carter, 88, of Belton will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton with Rev. John Roark officiating. Burial will follow in North Belton Cemetery under the direction of Heartfield Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the funeral home. Mrs. Carter died Saturday, March 6, 2010, in Scott and White Hospital. She was born May 6, 1921, to Henry L. Garrett and Oma (Coker) Garrett in Roscoe, Texas. She was raised on a 80-acre cotton farm in the Champion Community in Nolan County, Texas. She graduated from Highland High School in 1940. She moved to Belton in 1957, and attended King's Daughters Hospital School of Nursing and was a nurse at Scott and Whet Hospital, Darnell Army Hospital and retired at Temple VA Hospital. She was a life long Baptist and was baptized at Champion Baptist Church. She was a member of the First Baptist and Miller Height Baptist Church of Belton. She attended Keys Valley Baptist Church. She was married to J.H. Redden from 1940-1965. She married Wyatt Grant Carter on Jan. 15, 1972, in Belton, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Herman D. Garrett; a sister, Velma Butterfield; and a granddaughter, Laura Suzanne Redden. Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Wyatt Grant Carter; a daughter, Vida Mae Wyatt and husband Neil W. Wyatt of Summerfield, Ill.; a son, Jerry Wayne Redden and wife Linda J. Redden of Holland, Texas; a step son, Michael Wayne Carter and wife Vickie and children of Burleson, Texas; a brother, Amos L. Garrett ad his son, Phil of Lorenzo, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Mary E. Garrett and children of Pasadena, Texas. She has five grandchildren, James and wife Michelle, Joel and wife Leslie, Nathan an wife Christina and Janna and Jessica. She has five great-grandsons, Julian, J.T., Logan, Jaxon and Ethan. |
