‘Stangs lose at G’wood
Written by Staff Reports
Thursday, 11 March 2010
The good news for the Sweetwater High School’s baseball team is that players didn’t have long to dwell on Tuesday’s 2-1 road loss at Midland Greenwood.
The Mustangs, who lost despite a one-hit, 10-strikeout pitching performance from Kris Mayes, returned to Greenwood this morning for their first game of a weekend tournament in the Midland area.  Sweetwater was to play Borger at 8 a.m. today and face San Angelo Lake View at 3:30 p.m. at Midland High, then play two more pool games on Friday — at 3:30 p.m. against Lamesa followed by Greenwood at 6:30 p.m.
Bracket play at the three-day tournament will be held Saturday at Greenwood and Midland’s Citibank Field.
Greenwood scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings on Tuesday by taking advantage of three errors and a pair of passed balls. Mayes, who no-hit Lamesa in his previous start at the Wooden Bat Classic, had a second no-hitter until Greenwood ended his bid with a one-out single in the sixth inning.
Sweetwater scored in the seventh when Cameron Fox walked and Austin Burt and Jason Vause singled, but ended up a run short.
