Ministerial Alliance to host prayer vigil
Written by Staff Reports
Monday, 03 May 2010
The Nolan County Ministerial Alliance is hosting a 12 hour prayer vigil in observance of the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 6, 2010. The prayer vigil will be located at The Sweetwater Prayer Center at 1418 Hailey Street, next to Emmanuel Fellowship Church.
The format for the prayer vigil will be a “come and go” prayer event. The Prayer Center will be available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and local churches will provide a host for each hour of the prayer vigil. Members of the community are invited to come to The Prayer Center at their convenience. The Prayer Center will be set up with seven prayer stations providing opportunities to pray for government, media, education, church, family, military and businesses. Everyone is welcome to stay as long as their schedule permits.
2010 marks the 59th Annual observance of the National Day of Prayer. The theme for 2010 is titled “Prayer … For Such a Time as This.” It is based on Nahum 1:7, which reads, “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.” More information is available about the history of the National Day of Prayer at www.ndptf.org.
Members of the community have also decided to unite for a public time of prayer at 7 a.m. around the flagpole at City Hall to kick off the National Day of Prayer.
In Sweetwater, this year marks the 6th anniversary of the Ministerial Alliance hosting a National Day of Prayer event. The Alliance began by hosting a Prayer Breakfast at TSTC in 2005 and 2006. The leaders of the National Day of Prayer committee for the Ministerial Alliance decided to transition the format to provide an event that allowed the community to join together as participants in prayer. In 2007, the first prayer vigil was scheduled to be held at the Nolan County Courthouse with prayer stations available on the Courthouse lawn. Due to uncooperative weather, that event was moved to the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church and repeated there in 2008. The Alliance is excited to be able to host the Prayer Vigil at The Sweetwater Prayer Center for the second year in a row. The Prayer Center is a ministry of Emmanuel Fellowship Church and is a place of prayer available 24 hours a day to all members of our community. Typically, access to the Prayer Center is available by registering with Emmanuel Fellowship to receive the keyless entry code.  The entry code will not be necessary for the National Day of Prayer. You can learn more about The Sweetwater Prayer Center by visiting www.sweetwaterprayer.com.
