Gomez back in SW for movie premiere |

Sweetwater native Blanca Estella Gomez will be in town on Saturday, Nov. 10, for the premiere of her first movie, “Green Eyed Monster,” which will be shows at 2 p.m. at the Sweetwater municipal auditor-ium.
Gomez lived in Sweetwater until she was seven years old and she and her family moved when her father was given a better job opportunity in the Metroplex.
She said that moving from Sweetwater and leaving friends was difficult for her at the time. However, Gomez later came back to Sweetwater to be close to her father, who had moved back to Sweetwater. She worked at KXOX radio station, co-hosting the morning show with Jeff Stein. Gomez worked at the station from August to December of last year.
Gomez attended J.P. Cowen Elementary School when she lived in Sweetwater as a child. After moving to the Metroplex, she attended Adams Middle School in Grand Prairie as well as Grand Prairie High School.
It was in middle school that she had her first taste of acting in theater. She has been acting since 1998 beginning in eighth grade. Gomez is also a graduate of Trinity Valley Community College in Athens.
Gomez said that she has been a performer all her life. She was a dancer as a child and when she had her first theatrical audition in eighth grade, “acting just came natural” to her. She vigorously pursued acting after that, being very involved in theater through middle and high school and even after graduation.
Gomez currently resides in Arlington where she is a receptionist for an audio visual integration company. She was recently promoted and has many more responsibilities within the company.
In her spare time, Gomez loves to read.
“I also love eating out and watching TV,” she said. “I love to watch the acting and to look at the costumes of the characters and I just love observing the writing of certain TV shows.”
She also has been involved in three theater productions within the past three months.
Gomez’s parents currently reside in Sweetwater. She attributes many of her accomplishments to her father, Pete Joe Gomez.
“He is the most amazing father in the world,” she said. “He has always been my inspiration in life and encourages me in everything I do, no matter what.”
She also thanks her father’s fiancée, Norma Regino, for being there for her. “She’s an angel,” she said.
Gomez’s mother, Janie Gomez also lives in Sweetwater. “My mom is so supportive,” she said. “I love her with all my heart. She is the strongest woman alive and she completes me.”
Gomez also attributes her success to working at KXOX. “I want to thank all the people who have supported me and believed in me all this time. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am right now.”
When Gomez auditioned for “Green Eyed Monster” in Dal-las, she wasn’t sure what part she would be auditioning for. She actually read for a part that just didn’t fit her.
The crew was about to let her slip away when someone suggested she read for the part of Ashley, her character in the movie. She received a callback asking if she could miss two weeks of work. Gomez accepted the role and the rest was history.
The movie crew began filming in the small town of Kopperl. She didn’t meet the other members of the cast until filming began, out in the middle of nowhere.
“There was a bunch of dirt and rocks where we were at and my cell phone had no service so I was disconnected from family and friends for two weeks,” Gomez said. “My experience was a lot of fun and I realized that this is something that I definitely want to do.”
Blanca said that her character, Ashley is a very sullen and scared girl.
Along with Gomez, producer Vincent Barboza and director Gabriel Barboza will be at the municipal auditorium Saturday to answer questions.
Gomez will autograph glossy photos of herself as well as movies and movie posters that will be available for purchase at the screening. The DVDs will be available for $10. They can also be purchased online at the movie’s website www.green-eyedmonstermovie.com. Gomez will also be featured on the KXOX morning show on Saturday prior to her premiere.

Every year we would all come together at my grandmother
McFaul-Coplen's home in Roscoe. She is no longer with us, but my family now
celebrates Thankgiving in my home. My parents, brothers, and their families all
bring a dish. I wanted to carry on what my grandmother started, and love and miss

Last year I had chosen my fall leaf garland with gold candles
however, at the last minute I had to redecorate with my snowman collection due to

Every year we get together at Mom and Dad's to eat until we
can't breath. Then we proceed to decorate the tree. Everyone has their own ornament.
Once the tree is decorated, we all lay under the tree, turn the overhead light off

I don't know if y'all remember my parents, James and Sarah Rycroft, or not -- but years ago Daddy would secure the National Guard Armory in Sweetwater for Thanksgiving and would invite anyone in Sweetwater that didn't have family to be with to join us for dinner. We would cook all week long. We also delivered Thanksgiving dinner to people that were "home bound".Daddy would set up 3 or 4 televisions for the ball games. Folks would sit around and play domino. It always turned into quite a social event. Daddy couldn't stand the thought that anyone would be left alone on Thanksgiving.
