Courthouse elevators to receive an upgrade
Written by Tatiana Rodriguez

At their regular monthly meeting Monday, Nolan County commissioners approved a bid to upgrade the courthouse elevator interiors.
The elevators inside the courthouse have writings scratched into the gaps of the elevator walls and the lighting in the elevators is in need of an upgrade, according to Nolan County Judge Tim Fambrough.
Fambrough said those responsible for the upkeep have said they would provide all the materials and labor for the upgrade project on three elevators in their bid of $9,915. The upgrades will not include the jail elevator.

The panels in the elevator will be removed for reclading and will be reinstalled with brushed stainless steel panels. The gaps in the wall where the writings are found will be removed and also replaced with brushed stainless steel panels.
Two-inch ADA compliable hand rails will also be placed in the elevators. The current grid paneled lighting and dropped ceiling will be updated with newer lighting. Fambrough said the company is requiring a quick response for its bid, due to the rising cost of steel.
Commissioners also approved a contract with West Central Texas Council of Governments for a grant to purchase a chipper/cutter for Nolan County.
Commissioner Tommy White said the county had been approved for a grant of $19,847 and required that two reports be turned in to the WCTCG.
The first report was mailed last week, with the next being due April 10.
The county will receive payment of the grant after the second report is received. Commissioners will soon begin the process of purchasing the chipper/cutter for the county.
Colin Fleming, vice president of development for Airtricity, was present at Monday’s meeting to ask for the county’s approval of a road use agreement with Airtricity Inadale. The company will begin construction of a 197 megawatt project in Nolan, Scurry and Fisher counties in approximately three weeks, according to Fleming.
In the road use agreement, the county requires that dust be controlled with brine water or another suitable product to minimize the stress on adjacent irrigated crops during construction. Roads must also be bladed for the duration of the construction sufficient to allow passage of a passenger sedan and roads must be maintained in a manner safe for the traveling public with appropriate lights and flashers as needed.
All roads impacted by construction traffic, whether or not they have been specifically included in the agreement, must be repaired of all damages.
