A tornado was reported about four miles west of the com-munity of Maryneal about 2:15 p.m. Monday. The tornado, which caused no injuries, reportedly touched down in the vicinity of a wind farm and stayed on the ground for about three minues off Farm Road 608.
The tornado was one of several weather events that hap-pened in and around the Abilene area on Monday and early Tuesday. The storms, which also brought over an inch of rain to Sweetwater, were caused by a system that was the result of a slow-moving, upper level low pressure area, which was located over northern Mexico and was expected to move across the Big Country and bring with it severe weather along with heavy rainfall. The National Weather Service received reports of penny to golf-ball size hail that were part of some of the storms that hit the area Monday night. Temperatures were expected to reach only into the 50s to-day with a 60 percent chance of rain in the forecast.
