The Permian Basin Foun-dation has recently awarded West Texas Opportunities, Inc. with $130,000 through the Texas Resources for Iraq Afghanistan Deployment (TRIAD) fund.
Current and former military personnel serving in Iraq or Afghanistan and their families will be served with this fund. The funding will serve the following counties: Andrews, Borden, Dawson, Ector, Fish-er, Gaines, Glasscock, Howard, Martin, Midland, Mitchell, Nolan, Scurry and Upton.
The Iraq-Afghanistan De-ployment Impact Fund at the Los Angeles-based California Community Foundation awar-ded grants of $5 million each to three Texas community foundations to support the efforts of non-profit organizations that provide needed services in Texas to active and former military personnel serving in Iraq and/or Afghanistan and their families. Awards were made to Midland, Dallas and San Antonio foundations. The Permian Basin Area Founda-tion in Midland was awarded the funds for a large area including Amarillo, Lubbock, Abilene, Midland, San Angelo, El Paso and Fort Stockton and the nearby cities. The other two foundations will cover the remaining cities in Texas.
To receive assistance through the TRIAD fund, soldiers or family members must bring proof of deployment. WTO is able to assist these families with many things such as rent, certain utilities and food.
Nolan County WTO also offers many other services in the area such as assistance with electricity and gas bills, emergency food and shelter and even clothes for job interviews when funds are available.
For more information, visit WTO at 119 E. Third Street, Suite 307 or call 325-236-9201.
