WASP museum to have its homecoming May 24 |

The National World War II WASP Museum will host its annual open house, barbecue dinner and Memorial Flag ceremony on Saturday, May 24 to celebrate its 2008 homecoming and honor the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of World War II. The open house will begin at 10 a.m. with WASP movies, activities for children, and displays for living historians and collectors. Historic aircraft owners are encouraged to fly in for the day to nearby Avenger Field. "Miss Ziggy," an L-5 piloted by Charlie Wood, is scheduled to be part of the event. The speaker will be Nicole Malachowski, a major in the U.S. Air Force and the first female Thunderbird pilot.
The barbecue dinner will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a Memorial Day ceremony at sunset. Big band music rom the 1940s to help dance the night away will be provided by the Sweetwater Municipal Band, with soloist Lori Ortega and a special appearance by "The Andrews Sisters." Dinner will be $10 for WASPs, $20 for museum members, and $25 for non-members. Table sponsorships are available for $200 and $250.
