Beard gives his resignation as superintendent

During a special session of the Sweetwater Independent School District board of trustees Thursday, board member Bryan Studdard said he really did not want to accept the resignation of superintendent Dr. Ronny Beard.

“(I am doing this) with deep gratitude and many heartfelt thanks,” Studdard said in making the motion to accept Beard’s resignation effective June 30. Beard is currently the lone finalist for the Cleburne ISD superintendent post.

With Beard’s resignation approved by the board, the panel went through the next steps of the process. Ginny Mayes made a motion to open the position up to members of the district first for a period of 10 days. The motion carried unanimously.
Beard said the board could review the internal candidates during the Tuesday, May 20, meeting, to be held at Sweetwater Intermediate School.

In announcing his resignation, Beard said it was the toughest thing he has had to do during his career.
In a one-page letter to the board, Beard said he appreciated the board for “allowing me to work with such a great group of people who are truly interested in doing what is right and what is best for the children of the Sweetwater school district.”
Beard said over the course of his career, he has seen many communities, but Sweetwater ranks as the best he has seen.
“Sweetwater schools are filled with outstanding educators who have the ability to do wonderful things for kids and school administrators who know how to empower those people to perform to their maximum capacity,” he said.
Beard noted that good things are in the future for Sweetwater district and it will deserve the “praise and recognition that are sure to accompany them.”
In a related matter, Beard reported the resignation of Sweetwater Middle School principal Kent Ruffin, pending his affirmation as the new superintendent for the Rotan ISD.
Beard said the Rotan board should vote on its new superintendent within the next two weeks.
Ruffin’s resignation would be effective June 20, pending his approval in Rotan.
