Nolan County Commissioners maintained the lifting of the county’s burn ban when they held their regular meeting Tuesday. The month-long ban had been lifted two weeks earlier at the previous commissioners meeting. Commissioners decided to keep the ban lifted on Tuesday because of recent rains in the area. Fire Chief Grant Madden told commissioners that from what he had seen, weekend rains hit some of the county pretty hard and even waterlogged a few areas. Madden said significant rain was reported at Lake Sweetwater as well as amounts in Roscoe, Blackwell and Maryneal. “Of course, it was really fast and not a lot of it soaked in, but I think pretty much the entire county got some rain,” Madden said.
In other business, commissioners took the following actions: — approved a $15,000 bond for sheriff Donnie Rannefeld and the waiver of local match fund participation with the Texas Department of Public Safety on the Seale Creek Bridge in Precinct 4; — approved a request from county clerk Pat McGowan to hire a part-time employee to help with county records and to paid from records management funds. Also, the commissioners discussed questions about the vacation time policy for county employees, but that discussion was tabled until the policy committee holds their next meeting. — opened and received several bids for paving materials, crushed rock, pea gravel, and bids for two county dump trucks.
